What are the types of stretching are there? How long should you hold a stretch? These are the main topic of this video. It's different for non-athletes than it is for athletes.

For Non-Athletes

Most people are familiar with basic static stretching. That's where you just get into a stretch position you move till you feel some tension and then you hold that position. It's called the contract-relax method and it is an extremely good type of stretching for improving flexibility and range of motion for most people. This type of stretching is by far and away, the best type of stretching for achieving that goal.

For athletes

Obviously, athletes use different types of stretching but, did you also know that if you do a stretch for too short a time you're not going to give your muscle time to relax?

Some athletes will hold those stretches for quite a long time. So how long should they hold a stretch until they get diminishing returns?

What is the sweet spot?
