A former Sensai of mine, Gordan Sinclare, used to love this variation Of Kata Juji Jime. He was exceptionally good at it. Naturally short in stature, Gordon was very nimble and could pull this strangle off almost whenever you thought you had him and were going to throw him.

Gordan would sepend endless hours trying to teach this version of Kata Juji Jime to me but I could just never quite get it. I don't mean the strangle itself, that is reasonably straight forward but this execution from a standing position just eluded me.
I'd love to say that the trick is in this or that but as I said I never managed to get the hang of it. If you can get the hang of it I think you may find it one of your most useful tools in a contest.
Watch the video. Follow it step by step and maybe you'll be able to master it and say to me that I don't know what I'm talking about because it is easy.
